Opening an online store in Egypt no longer needs a developer or a big budget, but it does need the steps in the right order. Many projects stall because the owner started with the design and the ads before working out the costs or deciding how orders will be delivered. In this guide we walk you through it in order, from the idea to your first order.
1. Choose a product you can sell at a profit
Before anything else, ask yourself three questions about the product:
- Is there real demand for it? Search for it on Google, Instagram and TikTok, and check whether there are pages selling it that people actually engage with.
- Can it carry the shipping cost? A product priced at 80 EGP with a delivery cost of 70 EGP will struggle to be profitable on its own.
- Can you keep it in stock? Running out after your first successful campaign wastes everything you spent on ads.
Tip: start with a small number of products (10 to 30) that you know well, rather than a huge catalog you cannot keep up with.
2. Work out the real cost before you set the price
The price is not based on the product cost alone. Write down everything you pay for a single order:
| Item | Example |
|---|---|
| Product cost | 200 EGP |
| Shipping | 70 EGP |
| Packaging | 10 EGP |
| The order's share of ad spend | 40 EGP |
| Online payment fees (if any) | A percentage of the price |
And don't forget that some cash-on-delivery orders will be refused at the door, and you will pay their shipping with no profit. Try your numbers in the online store profit calculator before you set the final price.
3. Choose a name and a simple identity
You don't need a complex visual identity at the start. This is enough:
- An easy name that is simple to write and say in both Arabic and English.
- A clear logo that looks good on a phone.
- Two or three colors that you use across the store, photos and ads.
If the name is available as a domain (like yourbrand.com), register it early, even if you start on a free address.
4. Decide which payment methods you will offer
In Egypt many customers still prefer cash on delivery, but offering alternatives reduces refused orders and builds trust. The main options:
- Cash on delivery.
- An online payment gateway for cards and wallets, such as Paymob.
- Instant transfers such as InstaPay and Vodafone Cash, with the customer uploading the transfer receipt.
The more options you give customers, the fewer orders get refused at the door.
5. Sort out shipping and delivery
Decide now:
- Who will deliver the orders? Your own courier, a shipping company, or both depending on the area.
- What is the delivery fee for each governorate? Set it clearly so the customer sees it before placing the order, not after.
- How will you package the product? Good packaging reduces damage and leaves a professional impression.
6. Set up the store itself
A good store at the start doesn't mean a perfect store. Focus on:
- Clear photos of every product from more than one angle, on a simple background.
- A description that answers the customer's questions: material, sizes, how to use it, delivery time.
- Logical categories that get customers to a product in two taps.
- Trust pages: about us, the exchange and return policy, and how to contact you.
With a platform like HalaOrders you can set all of this up from one dashboard with no code, and the store works in Arabic and English and looks good on mobile.
7. Test before you launch
Before you spend a single pound on ads, ask two or three friends to actually place an order:
- Did they find the product easily?
- Was the delivery fee clear?
- Did the order reach you complete, with the right details?
Every problem you find now saves you dozens of lost orders later.
8. Your first marketing plan
Don't start with a big ad budget. Start with what you already have:
- Your current followers: put the store link in your bio and in every post.
- Simple daily content: a short video showing the product in use beats a flashy design.
- A small test budget on one strong product, and measure the results before you increase it.
The bottom line
The right order is: a product with demand → a calculated cost → clear payment and shipping → a simple, trustworthy store → gradual marketing. Stick to this order and you will avoid most of the mistakes that stop projects in their first months.
